why we built ojalá.
Dating apps turned meeting someone into a numbers game: endless scrolling, messages from people you never chose, and a feed tuned to keep you swiping rather than to get you off your phone. We wanted the opposite. A short, honest deck of the people who are genuinely near you, and a conversation that only starts when you both want it to.
Ojalá means hopefully.
It is the word you use when you want something to happen and you know it might not. That felt like the right name for a dating app. You put yourself out there, you hope, and sometimes it lands. Everything we build tries to make that moment a little more likely and a lot less exhausting.
So the deck is ordered by real distance instead of by a ranking nobody can see. A wave only becomes a match when it goes both ways. Nobody can message you until you have said yes to them too. Your location is fuzzed before it ever leaves our servers, and your exact coordinates are never sent to anyone. We don't sell attention, and we never will.
a polari group company
Ojalá is made by Polari Group, a small independent software studio. Polari was a coded language people once used to find one another when finding one another was difficult and sometimes dangerous. We took the name because that is what a good app should quietly do: help people find each other. We build a short list of products and we build them carefully.
